Forks & point
course description
The Grade 8/9 Advanced Outdoor Education Elective is designed for students who have participated in a previous OE elective (with overnight trip) at Connect. This elective will build off of the skills developed in previous electives including leadership, teamwork, personal responsibility and outdoor skills in an immersive, supportive and encouraging environment. In addition to basic backcountry skills, activities will include a specific focus on advanced backcountry cooking skills as well as food planning, packing and preparation and a more active involvement of students in all aspects of trip planning. In addition to emphasizing team building and leadership, this course will also focus on building physical fitness and tolerance for adversity in an outdoor environment.
Most backcountry gear will be supplied by the school, but participating students will need good hiking boots and technical clothing (including waterproof tops and bottoms) in order to participate comfortably. Students should also be prepared to put in necessary work in all core classes in order to be eligible for multiple days out of the classroom in early June.
