OUTDOOR ED 6/7 - Spring 2015
June 4th - june 5th - Quaite Valley
course description
The goal of the OE Elective is to focus on student leadership, teamwork, personal responsibility and outdoor skills, through the preparation for and participation in an overnight hiking trip to Quaite Valley. Course activities include trip planning, packing, use of camp stoves, tent set-up, fire building, wildlife safety and “leave-no-trace” backcountry travel ethics. Backcountry gear will be supplied by the school but participating students will need sturdy hiking boots and good rain gear in order to participate comfortably in our many outdoor excursions. The only prerequisites for this course are having a positive attitude and a commitment to the entire program including all excursions, paperwork and pre-trip meetings outside of class time. Students should also be prepared to put in necessary work in all core classes in order to be eligible for multiple days out of the classroom.
